It’s a Good Time To Update Labor Law Posters

*Posters can be downloaded and printed out for free*

AUGUSTA-As 2013 begins, Commissioner of Labor Jeanne Paquette reminds employers to update their labor law posters. The Maine Department of Labor’s website lists both the required and the optional posters under both state and federal law. The posters are available for downloading and printing free of charge.

“We have had some changes to the law in 2012, and the posters reflect those changes,” said Commissioner Paquette. “Our website lists all of the posters from our department and other state and federal agencies. Businesses can conveniently print out everything they need from one place.”

All the posters listed reflect the most recent changes in the law and meet the full legal requirements. Any specific posting requirements are noted on the department’s website. Employers are required to display certain posters in the workplace where workers can see them.

Sometimes Maine businesses receive official-looking notices soliciting employers to purchase labor posters that are otherwise available at no charge. Although the misleading notices are not illegal, Maine employers should know that they can obtain the same labor posters for free.

To download these posters from the Department of Labor’s website, visit https://www.maine.gov/labor/posters . The department administers Maine’s unemployment insurance system, is responsible for ensuring the safety of public employees and provides workforce development leadership and vocational rehabilitation services throughout the state.

Under the LePage Administration, the department has focused on connecting Mainers to jobs and helping businesses create jobs through strengthening our workforce development system, improving outreach to businesses and clarifying employment regulations.
