Last week, OSHA announced a new rule which will require employers to notify the agency when an employee is killed on the job or suffers a work-related hospitalization, amputation or loss of an eye.

The rule was issued on September 11, 2014 and goes into effect on January 1, 2015.  The rule will require employers to notify OSHA of work-related fatalities within eight hours and of work-related in-patient hospitalizations, amputations or loss of an eye within 24 hours.

The agency reports that it is developing a web portal so that reporting can be done electronically as an alternative to the telephone reporting option.
